What you'll learn

Trail running offers a refreshing new challenge: varied terrain, quieter routes, stronger legs and a different kind of endurance.

 

But moving from road to trail isn’t just about heading off tarmac. The terrain changes. The pacing changes. The fuelling changes. And confidence matters. This small-group workshop is designed specifically for road runners who can comfortably run 5km+ and are curious about exploring trails.

You’ll leave the workshop with practical skills, a clear plan for your first trail runs, and a new way to use the fitness you’ve already built.

Across 2.5 practical hours in Beckenham Place Park, you’ll learn: 

  • How to adapt your road technique for uneven terrain

  • Uphill and downhill skills that build confidence

  • Smart pacing strategies (including when walking is the right move)

  • Trail-specific fuelling and hydration strategies

  • Strength essentials to support injury resilience

Meet your guides

This is a supportive, hands-on session focused on building confidence, not speed. 

 

It will be led by experienced run coach Mary Brookingand endurance sports nutritionist Rebecca Palser

 

  • Mary is an England Athletics licensed running coach who leads group run sessions in Hilly Fields and also coaches running 1:1 and supports runners on their marathon and half marathon journeys. She loves trail running for the time it gives her in nature, the technical challenge of the trails, and the fact that no two runs are ever the same as the terrain and conditions constantly change. 

  • Rebecca is a registered sports nutritionist and an avid runner who discovered trail running while living in Hong Kong and enjoys exploring off-road. She helps runners of all abilities fuel better so that they can achieve their running goals.​
